Exploring of Valbona National Park, Albania

Tourism Boom Threatens Valbona National Park's Natural Charm

Valbona National Park, located in northern Albania, is a remote wilderness that has recently been gaining recognition in the tourism world.
Despite the challenging roads and the considerable distance from all directions, Valbona is gradually developing into a tourist hotspot.
As tourism continues to surge, the park's pristine allure faces mounting challenges. Instead of the rustic appeal of simple guesthouses, hotels, and large resorts are being constructed.
Our recent three-day sojourn into this remote Albanian gem opened our eyes to the shifting landscape and the need to preserve the park's unique charm.

Hiking Valbona to Theth: Finding Solitude Amidst the Flock

The trek from Valbona to Theth continues to be a favored route for hikers, but its popularity has given rise to larger crowds.
Yet, despite the mounting footfalls, pockets of solitude still exist. Those willing to venture off the well-trodden path can still savor Nature's pristine beauty, vibrant landscapes, and crystalline rivers.

Maja Rosit: The Gem of Valbona

For those seeking an escape from the crowds and a truly Valbona experience, we enthusiastically recommend the hike to the summit of Maja Rosit. This trail is less frequented but incredibly rewarding.
As you ascend, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and Valbona River below.
It's a true wilderness adventure that allows you to immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of the park.

Albanian Cuisine: Savoring Authenticity

During our journey in Valbona, we chose to explore the region's culinary delights by purchasing food from local stores rather than dining in restaurants. The food we encountered was a nostalgic reminder of simpler times, with its delicious bread, fresh fruits, vegetables, and flavorful juices.

In conclusion, the rising tourism in Valbona National Park serves as both a blessing and a challenge. While it may be growing in popularity, there are still opportunities to discover its untouched beauty. ;)
